the wfa story

We’re From Antarctica (WFA) is an indie pop band from the Lehigh Valley, PA that consists of five members- Carlos “Paco” Brown, Jessie Rae, Jon Blanco, Mackenzie Kressley, and Christopher Rauch. After many years of very nearly crossing paths and happy accidents while on the search for creative work, the group finally all connects in 2018 and starts collaborating.

Why does WFA do what they do? A better question is what should we do with the thoughts we carry in our minds, the stories of our lives, the love we feel, the grief, the longing, the joy, the pieces of ourselves we pick up on the way? WFA is exploring the highs and lows of life the best way they know how, and that’s to share it in a song.

Each We’re From Antarctica song is a collaboration of the five very individual minds of WFA. The song subject matter is often emotional, introspective, and wistful, with a contrast of playful instrumentation. It’s been described by fans as “music that you play while you make dinner for the friend you’ve secretly been in love with for five years,” and even “wistful makeout music.”

Naturally, with five very different minds, challenges arise. In a band that wants every member to share the spotlight, there are struggles of balance, burnout, and creative differences. In a band of five very different personalities and backgrounds, there may be times they don’t see eye to eye. But seven years of hard work and collaboration has seen WFA grow to understand itself better. In the end, they’re more like a family that has been brought together by the friendship and music they’re created simultaneously.

The shining moments that have pulled WFA together are always those with their friends, their community. The songs of WFA are written to explore and express aspects of life that sometimes are too hard to talk about, and it is WFA’s greatest accomplishment if these songs reach a listener on a level where they feel truly understood and part of the story.

We’ll Figure It Out is their most recent release and it’s the group’s sophomore album. Exploring new sounds and styles, the group has reached an apex in capturing what perspectives and influences have led to this collection of songs- this album is a reflection of what the past 5 years as a band has brought: unforgettable memories and indescribable joys, but also doubt, burnout, and falling in and out of love with the things that matter the most. Through it all the band has persevered and has made meaningful connections within their community, with their fans, and with each other. This album is a testament to enduring friendships, there is nothing this band can’t do when they do it together.

We’ll Figure It Out was released independently on September 27, 2024. The album was recorded from December 2022-January 2024 at Headroom Studios and produced by Kyle Pulley- Kyle has also engineered artists such as: Alex G, Cafuné, and Dr. Dog.
